On February 11, 2009 the Searcy Leadership Institute (SLI) visited the State Capitol. The class received a guided tour of the Capitol and visited briefly with Representative Monty Betts, Representative Jonathan Dismang and Senator John Paul Capp, before each had to enter their respective session meetings. After lunch at Cothom's, the group met Governor Beebe for a formal picture taking ceremony and visited with Chief Justice Jim Hannah at the Arkansas Supreme Court. The day wrap up with meetings with representatives from the Arkansas Economic Development Commision and the Arkansas Parks and tourism Department. Patrick Reilly, Curriculum Director of the Leadership Committee stated, “Many of the class members had not had the opportunity to meet their state delegation in person. It was a great opportunity for the SLI class to see, first hand, state government in action.” The SLI 2009 began with classes in September and meets once a month till graduation in May.
